Set against the backdrop of the digital age, Laura Plageman considers notions of realism and authenticity using analog processes. In her Response series, she treats photographs as both representations and tangible objects, touching on the possibilities of realist representation, referentiality, and the photograph-as-thing. Her work oscillates between image and object, photography and sculpture, landscape and still-life.

Plageman has exhibited in galleries and institutions across the United States and internationally. She lives and works in Oakland, California.
