Set against the backdrop of the digital age, Laura Plageman considers notions of realism and authenticity using analog processes. In her Response series, she treats photographs as both representations and tangible objects, touching on the possibilities of realist representation, referentiality, and the photograph-as-thing. Plageman has held academic appointments at California College of the Arts in Oakland, California and Wesleyan University in Middleton, Connecticut. Her work has been exhibited in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland. She lives and works in Oakland, California.
