Sadie Wechsler’s quirky fabrications rescript reality like a déjà vu, mining every sci-fi, B-movie trope of our collective imagination. Using various approaches — straight photographs, digital and physical compositing, and layered 3-D dioramas — she makes far-flung locations, like the North Pole or outer space, and well-traveled tourist destinations equally extreme and exotic.
Sadie Wechsler (b. 1985, Seattle, Washington) received her MFA from the Yale School of Art in 2013. Her work has been exhibited across the United States, including recent exhibitions at Newspace Center for Photography in Portland, Oregon and Aperture Gallery in New York. In 2015, she was shortlisted for the Betty Bowen Award administered by the Seattle Art Museum. Wechsler is based in Seattle, Washington.
