Darzacq & Lüneman /
Doublemix

MAY 21 - JULY 23, 2016

De Soto Gallery presented Doublemix, an exhibition by Denis Darzacq and Anna Lüneman, featuring photo-sculpture hybrids that melded Darzacq’s photography with Lüneman’s ceramic abstractions.

Doublemix emerged from an ongoing collaboration between Darzacq and Lüneman, combining opposing realities in a single frame. Drawing from his practice of juxtaposing contrasting elements, Darzacq invited longtime friend and collaborator Lüneman to create sculptural interventions directly within his laser-cut photographs.

Lüneman’s ceramic pieces, inspired by historical decorative styles, are embedded into Darzacq’s images, transforming them into three-dimensional compositions. Made from earthenware—the oldest form of pottery—her sculptures resemble fractured remnants, while Darzacq’s photographic images ranged from project outtakes to vernacular snapshots. Their digital immediacy contrasts sharply with the tactile permanence of Lüneman’s work, creating an intentional dissonance.

The resulting composites occupy a surreal, liminal space—merging the virtual and the physical. Doublemix compresses the gap between screen-based imagery and tangible experience, evoking the surrealism of life in the digital age and prompting a reconsideration of how images are perceived and valued.
